Sean Cleland: Fiddling with Tradition, Leading the Next Generation
Sean Cleland is an award-winning Irish fiddler, educator, and the founder of the Irish Music School of Chicago. Growing up in Chicago’s rich Irish-American community, Sean began his musical journey at age 7, inspired by an early encounter with Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann. His passion for traditional Irish music led him to co-found the bands Baal Tinne, The Drovers, and Bohola, with whom he recorded albums and toured internationally. As a teacher, Sean has shared his expertise at prestigious festivals worldwide and served as musical director for theater productions. Through his school, he continues to mentor and shape the next generation of Irish musicians, ensuring the vibrancy and legacy of traditional Irish music for years to come.
