Join award-winning College of Lake County sociology professors John Tenuto and Maria Jose Tenuto as they explore the behind-the-scenes stories and symbolic usage of the Statue of Liberty.
Celebrate the 135th Anniversary of the original dedication of the Statue of Liberty with a fun and fascinating exploration of Lady Liberty’s iconic role in American popular culture. Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi’s statue has been an important figure in films, comics, television shows, literature, music videos, and collectibles. Join award-winning College of Lake County sociology professors John Tenuto and Maria Jose Tenuto as they explore the behind-the-scenes stories and symbolic usage of the Statue of Liberty in everything from Charlie Chaplin’s The Immigrant to Planet of the Apes, from The Godfather, Part II to Ghostbusters II. Learn which famous magician made the Statue "disappear." Special attention will be given to the enduring relationship between Superman and the Statue of Liberty and to a sociological discussion of the historic and ground-breaking 1986 Liberty Weekend events in New York Harbor during the statue’s centennial. See the Statue of Liberty in a brand-new light!
