On September 4, Dr. Gail Lukasik (author of White Like Her) will join us to present and discuss her book – What They Never Told Us: True Stories of Family Secrets and Hidden Identities Revealed. In the book. Dr. Lukasik "tells the stories of ordinary people who made extraordinary, life-changing discoveries about their parentage and/or race and ethnicity that fractured their identities." Throughout the book, she "asks the big questions: Who are we? And what is family?"
Gail Lukasik’s latest nonfiction book, What They Never Told Us: True Stories of Family Secrets and Hidden Identities Revealed, is the follow-up book to her best-selling memoir, White Like Her: My Family’s Story of Race and Racial Passing, which was named by The Washington Post, as one of the most inspiring stories of 2017. Gail is also the author of five mystery novels. Her latest mystery, The Darkness Surrounds Us, was described by Publishers Weekly as a "gripping ghost story."
