Genealogy of the Declaration of Independence
Hybrid
Thursday, July 02
7:00pm - 8:30pm
Cook Park Library, Libertyville
Meeting RoomIf you could create a tree of all the publications and people who influenced the Declaration of the Independence, what would it look like? Join us as we explore the heritage of our founding document.
When Thomas Jefferson, under deadline, took pen in hand to write a declaration of independence, he was not starting with a blank slate of ideas. He drew on many sources for his inspiration and sometimes even for his wording: the long tradition of English rights, political philosophers such as John Locke, and others. Join Joyce Haworth of Presenting History for a deep look at the historical sources behind the Declaration of Independence.
Come celebrate America 250 with us by learning more about this extremely important document!
